Australian Day: January 26th
January 26th is an Australian holiday called “Australian Day”.
On this day in 1788, the British fleet arrived at Sydney Cove.
Later, Britain declared that it would colonize the land.
To celebrate it, this day was set as a holiday.
However, it is now an anniversary to celebrate the founding of the country.
For the indigenous Aborigines who have lived for more than 50,000 years, many criticize this anniversary because it is the day when the British invasion began.
