Biological Weapons Convention Came into Effect on March 26, 1975
On March 26, 1975, the Biological Weapons Convention came into effect.
Biological weapons refer to weapons that use choking or toxic gas.
The Geneva Protocol, enacted in 1925, already provided for the use of biological weapons.
However, the treaty was new in that it provided for the multilateral development, production, storage and disposal of biological weapons.
Currently, it is signed in most countries and regions.
