Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women: November 25th
November 25th is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
On this day of 1960, the “Mirabal Sisters”, who opposed the Rafael Trujillo administration of the Dominican Republic were assassinated.
The eldest sister, Patria, the third, Minerva and the fourth, Maria were killed.
At the ”Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean”, November 25th was established as the day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
It was adopted as well at the UN General Assembly on December 17th, 1999.
And 16 days from this day to World Human Rights Day, December 10th is a week for the abolition of violence due to sex discrimination against women.
The purpose is to eradicate all violence against women, and it’s important that damage to women tends to be hidden.
