Independence Day of Ukraine: August 24th

August 24th is the Independence Day of Ukraine.

On this day of 1991, Ukraine became independent of the Soviet Union.

Following the collapse of the Russian Empire in the “February Revolution” in 1917, the Ukrainian Central Parliament was established in Kiev.

In the “October Revolution”, the Communist Party “Soviet government” was established and it was declared that the establishment of “Ukrainian People’s Republic” with the capital in Kiev, where the Central Assembly was located.

The two were in conflict and the ”Ukrainian-Soviet War” broke out.

As the result, Soviet won and Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic was established in December 1922.

Following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Ukraine became independent on August 24th.
