Mayday: The Origin of May 1

May 1st is “May Day”.

May Day is a workers’ festival held every year on this day.

It was originally a European anniversary celebrating the arrival of summer.

It was customary for workers and employers to bless each other.

On May 1, 1886, a strike broke out in Chicago calling for unifying overworked hours to eight hours.

This is the origin of Mayday.
