World War Orphans Day: January 6th
January 6th is “World War Orphans Day”.
It was adopted by an organization called “SOS Enfants en Detresses (SOSEED) *” in France.
* Enfants en Detresses means “suffering children” in French.
This is an international day to raise awareness about war orphans all over the world.
Governments in countries with many war orphans are often unstable, making it difficult to obtain credible data.
It is estimated that there will be about 140 million orphans in the world in 2013.
There are many causes for orphans.
- Damage caused by the war
- Infectious diseases such as AIDS
- Post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD), etc.
