December 31st is the Saint Sylvester’s Day.

The Saint Sylvester’s Day, is also known as Sylwester.

Sylwester is the Pope of the Catholic and Orthodox Churches, who reigned from January 31st, 314 to December 31st, 335.

So, December 31st was established as the anniversary of the Catholic Church, which is also known as Sylvester in Western Europe.

In the Orthodox Church, it corresponds to January 2nd (or 15th) and is considered the memory day of St. Sylwester.
