June 17th is “World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought”.
On this day in 1994, the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification was adopted.
Taking this opportunity, the United Nations General Assembly in January 1995 set this day as an anniversary.
The purpose, as the name implies, is to prevent desertification and rescue people suffering from drought.
A theme is set every year and has been implemented since 2001.
