World Humanitarian Day: August 19th
August 19th is World Humanitarian Day.
On this day in 2003, a United Nations office was attacked in Iraq, killing Sergio Vieira de Mello, a special representative of the United Nations Secretary-General.
In addition, more than 100 people were injured.
In August 2008, the United Nations General Assembly stipulated this day as an International Day with the aim of supporting victims of conflicts and disasters around the world and those who work next to the dangers called “Aid workers.”
Every year on this day, events are held around the world.
